The worldwide state of current affairs caught many Israeli Jazz musicians unprepared – whether on tour, abroad studying, or honing their skills around the globe. The members of GTO, prominent figures of the younger Jazz scene, have hitherto accompanied some of the world’s greatests – such as Chick Corea, Ravi Coltrane, Mulatu Astatke, as well as some leaders of the Israeli Jazz scene. They have also performed in festivals and venues worldwide, including several renowned clubs such as Birdland and Village Vanguard – the best spots for Jazz musicians to evolve in, where the swing charges ahead, and audiences closely follow suit.
Although we haven’t been able to invite international guests this year due to flights being largely on hold, the current situation has brought home some major local players: Gadi Lehavi, who began as a wonder child, later evolving into a full-fledged piano magician; Bassist / multi-instrumentalist and composer Tal Mashiach; and Ofri Nehemiya – the drummer with the floating beats. This trio, all in the country due to circumstance, come together to perform some of the freshest Jazz out of NYC’s hottest clubs.
