Flautist Ilan Salem, winner of the 2011 Prime Minister’s Composer’s Prize for Jazz, returns to the deep roots of jazz, with influences from jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong, Horace Silver, Charles Mingus, and Thelonious Monk.
Salem, who directed the Jazz Department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem until recently, has collaborated with many artists including Yoni Rechter, Esther Ofarim, and Achinoam Nini. He wrote the music for this performance for three wind instruments and a rhythm section, similar to classic hard bop bands. He will be joined by a group of top musicians from New York and Tel Aviv, including Hillel Salem on trumpet, Yonatan Yudkovich on tenor saxophone, Omri Mor on piano, Gilad Abro on contrabass, and Shay Zalman on percussion.
