A Tribute to Four Spiritual Mothers
In a performance concocted especially for the Israel Festival, Rona Kenan – one of the country’s bravest and most prominent creative forces – invites us into the realms from which she draws inspiration. As an artist who deals with poetry and language, explores the stark contrasts that nonchalantly exist in our world, and wraps it all together in beautiful, soul penetrating music – it will undoubtedly be interesting to meet those female artists (dubbed ‘Spiritual Mothers’ by Kenan) who have influenced her throughout the years.
Just last year – that now seems so distant and detached from our current reality – Rona released her latest album Zman Hatapuz (“Orange Time”), which she has named her most personal album to date. This special festival performance provides a new perspective on her inner world.
The show will host two special guests – Ester Rada and Hila Ruach – two fascinating and outstanding musicians, each in their own right.
From within a series of minimalist arrangements combining electronics, guitars and percussion, Rona will set out on a short voyage in the footsteps of the spiritual mothers who shaped her path. From new adaptations of classic female Hebrew poetry, to masterpieces by female musicians worldwide, the grand total amounts to an anthology of influential female art, all the way from Leah Goldberg to PJ Harvey.
