On stage, Matt Wilson is like a little kid excited to play with a new toy: playful, smiling, and beaming with his love for music.
Throughout his career, Wilson (drums) played with the greatest Jazz musicians and this in 2018 he received the Jazz Journalists Association Musician of the Year Award. His latest album, Honey and Salt: Music Inspired by the Poetry of Carl Sandburg was JJA’s 2018 Album of the Year, received a 5-star review from All About Jazz, and was dubbed “a masterpiece” by DownBeat.
Wilson will visit the festival for two shows with two different ensembles:
In the Modern Art Gallery, Matt Wilson will be joined by Ofer Ganor (guitar), Barak Mori (bass), and Assaf Yuri (saxophone) for traditional Jazz and Swing. The show will turn the spotlight from the composition to the interplay between musicians, to the music, and to the funky and playful atmosphere that can only emerge from such an open encounter.
The other show – Matt Wilson Trio
