Yossi Fine hosts Orit Tashoma

The bass master and international producer, Yossi Fine, a person of the freshest rhythms and highest-climbing scales, in a solo performance combining looper recordings and live music. Even though it’s a bass guitar solo performance, Fine can sometimes sound like an entire orchestra. After many years of tours, shows and recordings all over the world (among them Lou Reed, recordings for the David Bowie album —– , playing in the Gil Evans Jazz Orchestra, Vieux Farka Toure, Ofra Haza) producing groove-dripping albums (Shabak Samech, Hadag Nahash, Corinne Allal, Micha Shitrit), Fine has settled in Tel Aviv, always closely following the world of music, exploring and discovering new talents and styles from different worlds. He has also become the artistic director of our fellow Eilat festival in, the long-lasting Red Sea Jazz Festival.
In a special performance for our festival, he will be hosting the sharp-tongued Orit Tashoma and her spoken-poetry beats.
Orit’s texts are sharp, relentless and are a flow of words and lyrics reminiscent of great female artists overseas (Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and others) and weather humorous, subtle or straightforward, deal with protest alongside mystical texts raising questions and thoughts about the place of modern man in the progressive world. You can recognize a variety of influences in her style, from hip-hop and soul to Kesim prayers (the spiritual leaders of the Beta Israel community).
The encounter between Yossi and Orit is exciting and filled with a special atmosphere that continues the tradition of African-American jazz of improvising between music and lyrics, between rhythms and life.
