The Story that was Not Told” original audio-visual production: Eden Kalif @ Red Axes
Red Axes are Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, an Israeli duo conducting orchestras and festivals all over the world and responsible for promoting the electronic scenes in Israel and around the world. The Axes have appeared in every coveted club in Israel, took part in the international Balcony TV project and even made it to the Burning Man in the U.S.A few years ago, at their start, they were signed by quality French label “I’m a Cliché” and have kept on growing since.
Recently, they found the time to establish a new label called “Garzen Records” aimed at providing a multi-genre home for artists and was celebrated with an EP in Hebrew, “Ahuzat Bait”, which travels across the range of indie music and its environs.
In a show made for the festival, a collaborative partnership was established between Red Axes and the director Eden Kalif – graduate of the Bezalel Visual Communication Department, director and video editor, designer, illustrator and tattoo artist.
Kalif, who directed videos for various musicians (Noga Erez, Tatran, Hila Ruach, Shai Tsabari and others) partnered up with the duo and the “1001 Characters” exhibition in the Ruth Youth Wing of the Israel Museum, curated by Daniella Shalev. More than a thousand small figures in the exhibition – each with its own character – have been created by the skillful hands of the artist and industrial designer Yaacov Kaufman. Kaufman creates them from simple raw materials and conducts a dialogue with the ancient world and world cultures. Inspired by the exhibition, Kalif has created a stop-motion animation short about the adventures of the main character – a simple metal wire looking for its place in the world. The show interweaves original music accompanying the film and exciting video art accompanying the show.
An intricate masterwork of weaving together the stage, screen, and the exhibition.
