Happening in the labyrinth: a Pele Ozen session of groove-jazz hip hop
The hip hop ensemble, Pele Ozen, are a bunch charged with passion and energy where every voice has a character and vision of its own, which together forms a whole larger than the sum o its parts. Their music, as the name suggests, passes by word of mouth, with the band boasting a social agenda aiming at positive change using the power of art, holds youth as its prime audience and organizes freestyle circles and rap workshops.
In an original show for the festival, the band has created an homage full of love and respect to the relation between jazz and hip hop, which had begun somewhere in the 70s, when the breakbeats appeared on the scene, those very beats were taken from jazz, funk, and RnB on which the entire scene grew and thrived. Also accompanied by a double bass and percussion instruments, this time the four rappers of the bunch come armed with honed contemporary texts to take the audience on a deep dive into the depths of rap.
