Shai Maestro duo – soul links to “Two She-Bears” by Meir Shalev
“I am writing because there are stories which are better written than told, because it is unpleasant to feel their words in the mouth. Instead of them being like scorpions and centipedes on the tongue, let them crawl across the paper and drip their venom over it.”
Like Ruta, the narrator in “Two She-Bears” written by Meir Shalev (2012), the international pianist Shai Maestro plays because there are stories which are better played than told.
For years now, Shai Maestro has been touring the world with his trio to record with the best of the international music scene. His two most recent albums came out with the prestigious Jazz label ECM, and he is a frequent guest on the biggest festival stages in the world. This past year has led him to stay in Israel for a longer period of time.
In response to the festival themes, Shai plunged headfirst into the cross-disciplinary adventure and will be presenting an original suite for piano and cello along with the wonderful Mayu Shviro. Inspired by Shalev’s novel “Two She-Bears” dealing with the essence of pioneer-farmers in pre-Israeli State kibbutz and Moshav society.
