Sitting behind a small drum set and keyboards, Deantoni Parks (aka Technoself) presents a deceptively minimalistic show that produces an infinite range of sounds, processed by each one of us in his or her unique way.
Percussionist, composer, actor, and producer, Parks does not refer to his works as “poems” or even “compositions” but rather as ideas that he sends out – sounds that go out into his surroundings in a certain way, at a certain time. While improvising, he does not feel a need to find the perfect tempo or melody. Instead, he is simply in the moment. Parkes claims that the human brain interprets the sounds and improvises while listening, meaning – things sound and change in our heads at any given moment.
Parks is co-founder, producer, writer, and percussionist of the band KUDU, and one half of the duo We Are Dark Angels with composer and producer Nicci Kasper. Both are also members in the band Bosnian Rainbows with Omar Rodríguez-López and Teresa Suárez.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with dozens of musicians including Paul Schrader, Flying Lotus, John Cale, and Yoko Ono.
