paper boats on scissor ocean
Pianist, producer, and composer Assaf Talmudi blends influences of jazz, grunge, classical music, and soundtracks from TV series and video games into his compositions, creating a style he calls “Freak-Jazz.” The music is performed in dialogue with video art and sad-funny texts that deal with the attempt to maintain humanity in a world torn apart by cruelty, and the effort to find a sense of inner home during a time of destruction.
“To speak of beauty these days is naive, and essential, like sailing a paper boat on a lake of razor blades.” (A.T.)
The performance will feature pieces from the trio’s latest album, smoke detector’s lullaby, released last year, along with new works Talmudi wrote during the recent war. Rona Kenan will join for narration, electronics, vocals, and, if we are lucky, on guitar as well.
