Eyal Talmudi
SONOLODGE
Eyal Talmudi is one of the busiest artists on the scene — a saxophonist, clarinetist, bagpiper, pianist, composer and producer – he is a member of the equally busy ensembles Malox, Balkan Beat Box, and Oy Division. He is an energetic performer, known for his charismatic and charming stage presence.
The Sonolodge was inspired by the Native American “sweat lodge”— a tribal ceremony involving prayer, healing, and singing in a dark, enclosed space that gradually heats up, culminating in an emergence into the open air and giving thanks for what is and what is not.
In this new ritualistic experience in four chapters – overtone singing, clarinet, saxophone, and bagpipes – Talmudi invites the audience to connect with the enveloping exhibit where the performance will take place – the beautiful and stirring “The Israel Trail: The Procession” – a video installation spread across three walls of the gallery, depicting a group of nomads, part survivors, part refugees, traversing the land. There, we will sit, stand, lie down, close our eyes, or open them wide and surrender to Talmudi’s paths of singing, spirit, and breath.
The performance will take place at “The Israel Trail: The Procession”, artists Merav Eytan and Ayelet Carmi, 2018, part of the “Interlocking Tools” exhibition.
