Arnie Lawrence Tribute - I Carry your HeartModern Art gallery
U.S. | Israel
After making his mark in the U.S. with the foundation of The New School in New York, Arnie Lawrence brought New York Swing Jazz to Israel – giving a taste of the spirit of Jazz to dozens of Israeli musicians before they traveled the world and experienced it for themselves. Arnie dreamed of turning Jerusalem into the capital of Mediterranean Jazz, and was loved by generations of musicians who flocked to him for his big heart, his modesty and simplicity, and especially for his passion for playing and for music. His son, Erik Lawrence, was only eight years old when he joined his father in the recording of the album Inside an Hourglass with other musicians, including five-year-old Richard Davis Jr. Quintessential Arnie, he recognized the magic and purity in the world of children and invited them into his mature “playground” as peers.
In memory and celebration of Arnie Lawrence (1938-2005), the festival will present two different programs:
“I Carry your Heart”
The show pays homage to Arnie’s iconic album Inside an Hourglass, released in 1970. The show will incorporate numbers from the album I Carry Your Heart that his son Erik Lawrence recorded with singer Ayelet Rose Gottlieb in tribute of his father’s legacy. The album features pianist Anat Fort and Rose Gottlieb’s three small children. A spectacular musical story that crosses generations.
