The traditional performance by Yellow Submarine’s Non-Standard Jazz ensemble unites Israeli music with Jazz adaptations, and returns to the festival for a fourth time. For this installment, we are taken down the alleys of Israeli Country and Folk music, with original adaptations of songs by treasured group Jane Bordeaux.
The Non-Standard ensemble regularly joins forces with Israeli musicians, normally those who don’t come from a Jazz background – previously working with the likes of: Alon Oleartchik, Rickie Lee Jones, Maor Cohen, Keren Ann, and Shlomi Shaban. Under the guiding hand and arrangements of pianist Tomer Bar, raw musical materials reemerge in a completely new package, where familiar songs are subject to creative freedom.
In true free-wheeling and rule-bending Jazz tradition, guest artists get to meet new and exciting aspects of their own music, like a precise gift given by an external spectator.
This year the ensemble hosts Doron Talmon – lead singer of Jane Bordeaux – who stormed into our lives directly from the Golan heights to the heart of Tel Aviv, bringing along a Galilean mixture of American Country-Folk and Hebrew texts.
With a debut album that certified gold in 2016, as well as two outstanding followups since, Jane Bordeaux is among the most circulated bands on Israel’s airwaves.
We here at the festival are thrilled to host this combination – and now you tell us: How could anyone not be?
